I ignore the bulletin board at all cost, they are always looking for some kind of help. But I am Not a helper.
Me, a deacon. NOT. I would rather have a root canal than be a part of church leadership. Choose some other sucker, pastor.
I meet with the pastor to ask for the qualifications of a deacon and, if qualified, ask to submit my name for consideration.
I go to my husband and let him know of the need and ask him to apply.
I know I am not qualified, so I sign up for a leadership class so that I may be ready the next time.

The church is planning a summer youth mission to plant a sister church in Mexico. How do you plan to help?
You mean church members are supposed to help out on those youth trips? Not me, I don't even like kids.
I would try to plan my vacation from work so that I could go with them and help chaperone the young people.
Our family has already booked flights for our vacation, but I can donate some of our vacation fund to help support the mission.
I will add the mission to my daily prayer time and ask the Lord to meet all of their needs.
I have no time for their mission, I have too many things in my own family to worry about. I can't go.

I put my name on the list saying I am willing and able to do any of those things. I will serve where most needed.

I am not able to help out this time, but I put my name down to help prep food next time they need someone.

Do you mean that we really need visit people in those places? I can't go there, someone might see me.
I get the contact info from Pastor, call and make appointment to visit at first opportunity.
I would get the address and send cards and letters once a week so she knows she is not forgotten.
I will see if one of my teenagers can fit a visit 2-3 times a month into their schedule, I am much too busy.
Maybe my family and I can work in a visit once in a while, but I can't commit to a long term visitation schedule.

I have done what is required. Now it is up to the church and the pastor to educate this new believer, not me.
I gave them a Bible and advised them to start reading at least a chapter each day, beginning in the book of John. That's enough! Its more help than I got when I was new.
I would set up a time we can meet together at least weekly to help them build up their foundation of faith.
I would call and check in on them a couple times a week to see how they were doing and try to answer any questions they have.
I would connect them with the new believers group at my church. They helped me out a lot.

A missionary team - husband and wife - came to visit your church on a tour to gather support for the coming year. The Pastor's guest room is already occupied with his mother-in-law. How do you help?
Our family has a cabin just outside of town, I will give them the keys so they can have a nice, quiet place to themselves while they are here.
Well, I don't have a guest room, but I can give $20 to their ministry.
Why should I care where the missionaries stay. They are just here to collect donations.
I would invite the couple to stay in my guest room for their time in our area.
I would rent a nice motel room for them for their visit. This will give them some much needed privacy.

I have saved up some money toward our family vacation, I will give half of it to help build our new church.
I can spare a few hours on Saturdays to help with the building. I so know how to swing a hammer.
Well, I will see if my teens want to help out the pastor in some small way.
I'm not a carpenter. That was Jesus' gig before He started preaching. They don't need my kind of help.
I can donate my time and labor to help build and I have $500 in my 'rainy day' fund I can give to the cause.

I can help out for the first service, I always go to the second one anyway.
I wouldn't mind helping out. I could do the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month during 1st and 3rd service for the next Sunday school quarter.
I can fit one Sunday a month into my calendar. How about during 2nd service on the last Sunday of each month for a quarter? Would that help?
I will get my daughter to help. She is 18 and well qualified in child care.
I don't have any children in the nursery, they are all grown and on their own. Why should I help?
